Oats are a natural superfood because they are 100% whole grain, and contain vitamins and minerals. Oats contain fibre, and are unique in that they are one of the richest sources of rich beta-glucan, a soluble fibre, that can help to lower cholesterol re-absorption. They are also low in sodium (salt) and provide protein and carbohydrate for energy.
Protein is a vital part of every cell in our body. Protein is needed for growth and tissue repair as result of day to day living.
Protein is found in animal foods such as meats, fish, eggs, milk, yoghurt and cheese ; and plant foods such as legumes eg soy beans, lentils; and grains, nuts and seeds. Vegetarians seldom have a problem getting enough protein in their diets.
Protein is made up of smaller parts called amino acids. There are 23 amino acids and most are made in the body. However there are 8 ‘essential ‘ amino acids for children and adults that must be provided from the food we eat.
Protein from plant foods may lack some of these essential amino acids so combining several plants foods together the complete amino acid set can be achieved.

The UNCLE TOBYS name and logo has significant historical significance, it was designed by Nellie Love, the niece of Clifford Love – the founder of UNCLE TOBYS, who was a keen artist and a student of literature. She suggested the name and designed the logo based on the great literacy character in the “Life of Times of Tristram Shandy” by Laurence Sterne, first published in 1759. In the book Uncle Toby is a gentle, uncomplicated lover of his fellow man. The original design of Uncle Toby standing with the Widow Wadman has seen little changes over the years, so has become a treasured representation of the UNCLE TOBYS heritage.
