Oatmeal and porridge are basically all the same thing – it just refers to the finished product you make when you add milk or water to your oats and cook them. At UNCLE TOBYS we like to refer to oatmeal as a chunkier, courser bowl of porridge or oats such as our O&G Chunky oatmeal, as opposed to our Quick Oats and Sachets which produce a creamier bowl of oats.
Oats, Quick Oats, oatmeal and porridge are all high in nutritional goodness, consisting of 100% whole grain and containing both soluble and insoluble fibre which helps to lower cholesterol re-absorption^ and maintain regular bowel movements.
^As part of a healthy diet low in saturated fat, 3g of beta glucan every day is required to help lower cholesterol re-absorption.
The UNCLE TOBYS name and logo has significant historical significance, it was designed by Nellie Love, the niece of Clifford Love – the founder of UNCLE TOBYS, who was a keen artist and a student of literature. She suggested the name and designed the logo based on the great literacy character in the “Life of Times of Tristram Shandy” by Laurence Sterne, first published in 1759. In the book Uncle Toby is a gentle, uncomplicated lover of his fellow man. The original design of Uncle Toby standing with the Widow Wadman has seen little changes over the years, so has become a treasured representation of the UNCLE TOBYS heritage.
